There is always a lot of excitement surrounding royal babies, and well-wishers around the world wait patiently to find out what name the couple pick for their little bundle of joy.
This year the family have welcomed an August, a Lucas and a Lilibet, with Princess Beatrice and her husband Edo also expecting a baby later this week.
And Beatrice knows more than anyone the importance of picking a good name, as her parents ended up changing her’s as the Queen thought it was “too yuppie”.
Picking a name for a potential king or queen is obviously a big deal, but there are also a few royal traditions they must follow before they can tell the world.
The main one is telling the Queen about their choice to check she’s happy with it, and while it sounds quite intimidating it’s just an “informal chat” when she gives her blessing.
Normally she doesn’t have any issues with the name suggestion, but it’s believed that she wasn’t sure when Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson shared their idea after welcoming their first child in August 1988.
It took two weeks for the Yorks to formally announce her name because of the Queen’s concerns, reports the Sun.
Fergie had her heart set on naming her daughter Princess Annabel, but Her Maj’s feedback, apparently, was that the name was too “yuppie”.
However it seems as if what the Queen takes away with one hand, she gives with another – she then suggested Beatrice, believed to having taken inspiration from the name of Queen Victoria’s youngest daughter, and the rest is history.
Beatrice’s full name is Beatrice Elizabeth Mary, with her middle names paying tribute to her grandmother and great-grandmother.
Beatrice and Edo’s first baby is due in the autumn, so we’ll have to wait a few months to see what she picks.
